# The Gautrain is offering a discount on train fares to eligible customers to make transport more affordable. Through the newly launched KlevaMova, passengers will be able to get a 50-percent discount on train trips to people living in households with a combined household annual income of 350-thousand-rand or less. Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport, Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, says students under the age of 25, learners, pensioners, and recipients of Sassa’s disability grant can also access the discount:
# Renowned photographer, cultural activist, and public historian, Omar Badsha, has received an honorary Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of Fort Hare. This is in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the arts, his pivotal role in the anti-apartheid struggle, and his dedication to preserving South Africa’s liberation history. His significant contributions include founding the Afrapix photographers’ collective, which used visual storytelling to document the struggles of ordinary South Africans during apartheid. Badsha received the National Order of Ikhamanga in Silver in 2018.
# The Viewing Room Art Gallery in Brooklyn, Pretoria, will host an inspiring group exhibition, showcasing the creative talents of printmaking students and staff from the Tshwane University of Technology’s Department of Fine and Studio Arts. The exhibition titled Setlhatliso embodies the creative richness and vitality of the printmaking process. Setlhatliso is a Setswana word referring to an impression, a drawing, or an image created through printing. The exhibition will run from Saturday until June 16.
# Portraits of King Charles and Queen Camilla, commissioned to commemorate their coronation in 2023, have been unveiled. The two full-length paintings of the king and queen were made by artists Peter Kuhfeld and Paul Benny, respectively. The portraits will be hung in the National Gallery until June fifth, before being moved to Buckingham Palace’s Throne Room. Benny says the whole process took two years:
# And finally: For the third consecutive year, London has been ranked as the best city in Europe. Resonance Consultancy assessed three major factors, namely liveability, lovability, and prosperity. It says London’s magnetic appeal continues to draw a global audience, from students and entrepreneurs to tourists and corporate titans. In second place is Paris, which the report describes as an intoxicating city. Third place went to Berlin, which is a champion of tolerance, cultural ambition, and coveted talent. Barcelona and Rome wrap up the top five.
