# South Africans are once again encouraged to support Slipper Day on May 30th, for the annual Reach For A Dream fundraiser. By simply buying a 20-rand sticker, wearing slippers, and showing support, people can help bring joy to children with life-threatening illnesses. Reach For A Dream CEO, Julia Sotirianakos, says every sticker sold helps turn dreams into reality, whether it’s the children meeting their hero, flying in an aeroplane, or receiving something they’ve dreamed of:
# An exhilarating musical theatre production depicting the life of liberation struggle icon Chris Hani, leading to his untimely death in 1993, will be showcased at the Dumisani Smart Theatre in Germiston, Gauteng, next week. The City of Ekurhuleni says it dubbed April the ‘Chris Hani Month’, a period of the year dedicated to commemorating the life and times of Hani. The metro’s spokesperson, Zweli Dlamini, says the musical production is curated by local artists based at the Dumisani Masilela theatre:
# The Cape Town Central City Improvement District is offering free first aid and wound care to homeless individuals. After completing training, peer field worker Chuma Dyasoni set up a weekly care table at the Service Dining Rooms in Canterbury Street, where vulnerable residents receive both meals and medical support. The initiative is aimed at empowering homeless people and has been praised for its commitment to community upliftment. Supporters of the programme are urged to join the ‘A Night on the Streets’ campaign on May 17.
# Fourteen-time Grammy Award winner Lady Gaga’s Brazil concert in Rio de Janeiro broke the record for the highest-attended concert by a female artist. The free concert at Copacabana Beach on Saturday drew a record-breaking crowd of 2.5-million people, breaking a record previously held by Madonna, who drew 1.6-million last year. It had been 12 years since Gaga last performed in Brazil. The 39-year-old performed her classic hits, including Poker Face and Alejandro, as well as tracks from her latest album, Mayhem.
# And finally: The latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thunderbolts, has won over audiences and critics, topping the box office in its opening weekend. Directed by Jake Schreier, the movie has a star-studded cast including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell. Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller Sinners came in second in its third weekend of release, with A Minecraft Movie landing in third. Ben Affleck’s action thriller The Accountant 2 dropped to fourth place, and Sony’s R-rated horror film Until Dawn remained in the number five spot.
