# Nedbank Corporate and Investment Banking has won three prestigious awards at the 2025 Global Banking and Markets: Africa Awards. The accolades are Local Currency Loan Deal of the Year for financing Cape Town’s infrastructure, ESG Bond Deal of the Year for its 2.1-billion-rand Sustainability Tier 2 Bond supporting women’s empowerment, and Real Estate Finance Deal of the Year for transforming real estate investment in Ghana. These recognitions have been praised for highlighting Nedbank CIB’s leadership in impactful financial solutions across Africa.
# The Gauteng Department of Health won the best stand award amongst government departments exhibiting at the Rand Easter Show at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. Yearly, government departments use the gathering as an outreach opportunity to render services and provide attendees with helpful information. The department’s spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba, says this award represents the provincial government’s commitment to bringing healthcare services closer to the people:
# The popular Cape Town International Jazz Festival’s free jazz concert returns to Greenmarket Square this week. Headliners include British acid jazz legends Incognito, iconic South African kwaito group TKZee, genre-blending group The Ploemies, rising star Hannah Ray, and powerhouse vocalists Andrea Fortuin and Fancy Galada. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says this open-air concert on Thursday has over the years become a popular feature of Cape Town’s annual events calendar:
# University of Fort Hare final-year Fine Arts Master’s student, Avuzwa Noko, has achieved a career milestone as his solo exhibition is now on display at the Ann Bryant Gallery in East London. Titled A Visual Journey Through Forgotten Railway, the exhibition features 20 photographic works that showcase the once-thriving railway stations that connected communities across the Eastern Cape. Noko says through photography, he explores themes of memory, abandonment, and social revival – using art not only to reflect history but to ignite conversations and inspire action.
# And finally: R-rated horror thriller Sinners starring Michael B Jordan topped the box office in its opening weekend. The movie in which Jordan plays identical twins Smoke and Stack takes place in the 1930s as the brothers return home to the South and open a juke joint, only for vampires to descend on the small town. A Minecraft Movie dropped to second with The King of Kings in third place. Disney’s vigilante spy film The Amateur dropped to fourth with A24’s combat thriller Warfare rounding out the top five.
