# The Department of Tourism has congratulated minister Patricia de Lille for being honoured with the Tourism minister of the Year Award – in Governance – Infrastructure Development. She received the honour from the Pacific Area Travel Writers’ Association in Berlin. The department’s spokesperson, Zara Nicholson, says tourism is one of South Africa’s most dynamic industries, contributing 8.8-percent to the country’s grossdomestic product and supporting 1.68-million jobs in 2024 alone:
# The Galileo Open Air Cinema is inviting moviegoers to enjoy an unforgettable cinematic experience in beautiful outdoor settings in the Western Cape this weekend. Ocean surfing short films, Changing Tempo, Where We Thrive, and The Source, will be screened at the Kirstenbosch Garden in Newlands tonight. Tomorrow, the 2005 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan, Batman Begins, will be screened at the Nederburg wine estate in Paarl. Tickets start at 145-rand per person.
# The Western Cape government has partnered with the Cape Town Cycle Tour in launching side mirror stickers that carry the message: “Can you see a cyclist?” The stickers aim to remind drivers and passengers to check their side mirrors before opening their doors to ensure no cyclists or other vulnerable road users are passing. MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, says in recent years, cyclists have been injured or lost their lives due to collisions with car doors:
# Jerseys worn by two of the greats in the world of basketball, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, in the first NBA games of their careers will be auctioned off in New York later this month. Jordan’s rookie jersey from his first game as a Chicago Bulls player and Bryant’s first game jersey from Los Angeles Lakers are expected to sell for a combined 363-million-rand. Auction house Sotheby’s says Jordan and Bryant’s jerseys are enduring symbols of the ambition, skill, and willpower that defined their legendary careers.
# And finally: King Charles has partnered with Apple Music to release his own playlist, an exclusive insight into his relationship with music. The King’s Music Room features artists crossing continents and genres, including Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, and Grace Jones, alongside contemporary talent such as Davido and Raye. Charles’s full choice of tracks will be published on Monday for Commonwealth Day. King Charles says the songs have helped form the soundtrack to his life:
