# The winners of the South African Student Design Competition have been announced. The competition, organised by the Tshwane University of Technology, paid tribute to Italian architect Matteo Cibic. Students were tasked to study Cibic’s work and design an exhibition space celebrating South African craftsmanship. University of the Free State students, Gustav Pretorius and Jeanré Erasmus, won the 20-thousand-rand cash prize for their work titled Moving through the Making, inspired by The Dancer, one of the well-known works by South African ceramic artist Andile Dyalvane.
# Nelson Mandela University’s George Campus staff and students supported the I Choose 2 B Active campaign, an initiative promoting physical well-being within the local community. Volunteers from the institution played a key role in facilitating various physical activities throughout the day, with learners from various schools taking part. George Campus Sports Manager, Siphesihle Jobo, says this initiative also aims to create an environment that fosters student growth and success in all aspects of life.
# Fifty Grade 9 learners at Sefutswelo High School in Uitkyk, North West, have received new bicycles. This 425-thousand-rand donation is a result of a partnership between Qhubeka Charity and the Star Foundation. Each student has received a bicycle, spare parts, and cycling accessories, along with road safety training. The foundation says the bicycles will hopefully ease travel time for learners, leading to better academic performance and greater participation in school activities.
