# 2019 Miss Universe and advocate for gender equality, Zozibini Tunzi, will be one of the guest speakers at the 10th Forbes Woman Africa Leading Women Summit in Pretoria next month. Themed, To the Power Of 10: The Rule-Breakers in Africa’s Next Chapter, this year’s summit will shine a light on those who have dared to challenge the status quo and transform both themselves and the world around them. Tunzi expressed excitement about sharing the stage with trailblazers who are transforming Africa.
# CapeNature celebrated tourist guides at an event at the Walker Bay Nature Reserve in the Western Cape. This year’s event served as a platform for guides to share insights, exchange expertise, and engage with industry leaders. CapeNature CEO Ashley Naidoo says tourist guides bridge the gap between visitors and the environments they visit, adding that they are the storytellers who bring history, culture, and conservation to life.
# Pop star Charli XCX has been named songwriter of the year and will receive the honorary prize at the Brit Awards at the O2 Arena in London on Saturday. The award has previously been won by British acts Ed Sheeran, Kid Harpoon, and most recently, Raye last year. The 32-year-old is also up for five awards including album of the year, for her seventh album, Brat, and British artist of the year. Earlier this month, Charli won three Grammy Awards including best dance album.
# The World Photography Organisation has unveiled the shortlisted finalists for its annual Sony World Photography Awards. There are ten categories in total with three photographers selected to be finalists in each category. Finalists include the Tokyo Toilet Project by Ulana Switucha, Divided Youth of Belfast by Toby Binder, and Hummingbirds from Peru by Efrain Sueldo. Jury chairperson, Monica Allende, says this year’s finalists have shown great originality and clarity of vision. Winners will be announced at a special ceremony in London in April.
# And finally: Sydney-based Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters in Australia has been crowned the best coffee shop in the world. South Africa’s Espresso Lab Microroasters in Cape Town is ranked 11th and The Whippet in Gauteng 89th. According to the World’s 100 Best Coffee Shops, cafés worldwide were judged on a variety of factors, ranging from quality of coffee and food, sustainability practices, and customer service. Onyx Coffee Lab of Arkansas in the US is second with Gota Coffee Experts of Vienna, Austria, in third.
