# University of Cambridge-trained artificial intelligence expert, professor Tshilidzi Marwala, will receive the highest academic accolade at the Tshwane University of Technology today. He will receive an Honorary Doctorate in Engineering in recognition of his exceptional academic leadership and great strides made in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Marwala has published 27 books on artificial intelligence and related topics and has received more than 45 awards, including the Order of Mapungubwe.
# Jelly Roll won all three awards he was nominated for at the Country Music Television Awards held in Austin, Texas. He won Video of the Year, Male Video of the Year, and Performance of the Year for his smash hit Need a Favour. Female Video of the Year went to Lainey Wilson for Watermelon Moonshine, while Dan and Shay took home the Duo/Group Video of the Year for Save Me The Trouble. All winners are determined entirely by fan vote.
# The City of Cape Town says it is investing 118.5-million-rand in local economic development infrastructure and upgrades, and the provision of business training this financial year. Planned projects include the refurbishment of existing informal trading sites in Mitchells Plain, Athlone, Happy Valley and Seaforth in Simonstown. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says these projects form part of the city’s comprehensive strategy to enhance the informal trading landscape:
# Capetonian Ryan Stramrood has made history by becoming the first person to conquer the Big 5 Swims in Western Cape waters. The challenging series of five demanding open-water swims, includes Cape Point eight kilometres and 33 kilometres of False Bay Crossing. Stramrood, a renowned extreme swimmer and global speaker, achieved this feat by completing the RI West Coast Angle, an 18-kilometer swim from Blouberg Beach to the northern tip of Robben Island.
# And, Transplant Education for Living Legacies is organising an awareness and tattoo day in Pretoria this month to promote organ donation. Attendees can participate in a competition to win a tattoo, reflecting the growing trend of people committing to saving lives. Around three-thousand people have already permanently inked their intention to be organ donors, showing strong support for this cause.
