# Eskom has been recognised as a Top Employer in South Africa by the Top Employers Institute. The institute’s certification is based on a rigorous benchmarking process, which evaluates organisations across six key human resources domains. It has certified more than two-thousand-300 organisations across 121 countries. Eskom’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says this recognition reflects the high performance and ethical culture that they are steadily building:
# Premier Oscar Mabuyane and Education MEC Fundile Gade launched the Eastern Cape Aviation School at 43 Air School in Port Alfred. The initiative introduces a three-stream education model focused on STEM fields, integrating the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and includes aero-maritime studies at Port Alfred High School. Partnering with industry experts, the programme begins with Grade 10 learners and aims to equip them with skills, marking a significant milestone in the province’s education sector.
# The Cape Town Carnival is gearing up to celebrate its 15th anniversary this year. The Green Point fan walk will come alive with music, dance, art, and culture, featuring local and international stars. The event, scheduled for March, seeks to support local talent and foster job creation, aiming to be a must-see for residents and tourists alike. Highlights include the Stormers rugby team’s float and Brazilian performer Erika Januza. The theme for the celebration is WowZA!’, which aims to reflect the joy and unity of South Africa’s creativity.
# Comedian and late-night host, Conan O’Brien, will be the 26th recipient of the Mark Twain Prize for American Humour from the Kennedy Centre. He joins a list of honourees that includes Richard Pryor, Carl Reiner, Whoopi Goldberg, Tina Fey, Eddie Murphy, Jay Leno, and David Letterman. Centre president Deborah F Rutter says O’Brien is a master of invention and reinvention, consistently pushing the envelope in search of new comedic heights. He will receive the award on the 23rd of March.
# And finally: Some of music’s biggest stars including Billie Eilish, Katy Perry, and Stevie Nicks, will headline a benefit concert called FireAid at the Inuit Dome and Kia Forum in Los Angeles later this month. The concert is to help those affected by the deadly LA wildfires. Other artists who will perform include Joni Mitchell, Sting, Lady Gaga, and Earth, Wind and Fire. Organisers say contributions to FireAid will be distributed under the Annenberg Foundation for short-term relief efforts and long-term initiatives aimed at preventing future fire disasters.
