# Six South African young scientists who presented their innovative research projects at international science fairs in Tunisia and Beijing, each secured medals in their respective categories. Keerthana Kishor Nair won gold and Alexia Hilton Smedmor silver at the International Festival of Engineering, Science and Technology in Tunisia. Eskom Expo executive, Parthy Chetty, says at the Beijing Youth Science Creation Competition, Steffan Thielen and Rohan van Loggerenberg won gold medals, while Nyakallo Nonjabulo Mbongo and Kiyara Tami Swartbooi won silver:
# The Midvaal Municipality in Gauteng has approved 29 recipients for the Mayoral Student Financial Aid Programme. The programme was launched in January to provide support to those pursuing higher education qualifications. The municipality has allocated 750-thousand-rand to the programme to assist students with tuition, registration fees and other essential study resources such as laptops and books. Mayor Peter Teixeira says they are committed to creating opportunities for all, especially young people.
# More than two-thousand-600 students are set to cross the graduation stage during the University of Fort Hare’s nine ceremonies this month. The youngest to be capped will be 20-year-old Owam Ngqondo, who will collect her Bachelor of Agriculture degree. At age 68, Pumelelo Vani, who will graduate with a Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education and Training, is the oldest graduate. The university says all the graduation ceremonies will reflect the institution’s commitment to excellence.
# The Tshwane University of Technology has launched Tshwane FM X-Tra, designed to deliver substantive digital content that is tailored to the unique preferences of listeners. This falls under the university’s radio station, Tshwane FM 93.6. Station manager, Tebogo Magubane, says Tshwane FM X-Tra is an innovative platform set to transform digital broadcasting and meet the growing demands of its audience:
# And finally: In the last three and a half years, the City of Cape Town’s funding partnerships with high-growth industry organisations have facilitated 25.4-billion-rand in investments. This has directly created 32-thousand-300 jobs. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says in the city’s new 2024/25 budget, they are proposing over 64-million-rand in support to partner organisations in high-growth industries, including call centres, tourism, manufacturing, and the green economy:
