# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi and MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, have welcomed one-thousand-120 emergency care interns in Katlehong. Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba says the Green Angels Emergency Care Internship Programme aims to expand the pool of qualified individuals in the emergency services sector. He says the interns will receive essential training and valuable experience, aiding their employability and contributing to emergency medical care:
# The Mangosuthu University of Technology in Durban says at least 270 deserving students can now register for the academic year after it secured more funding from donors. In 2020, the student representative council created a fund to help students with historical debt. This year 500 students applied to the trust fund. The university’s doctor Mthoko Ntuli says in February they received 1.1-million-rand from the Motsepe Foundation:
# Ten more schools in Soweto, Johannesburg, will be part of the ongoing tree-planting campaign to help contribute to clean air in South Africa. The campaign was launched to mark International Day of Forest last month. A total of one-thousand trees will be planted across 20 schools and selected communities in Gauteng by the end of this month. The trees, including indigenous species providing shade and fresh fruit, will offset an estimated 369 tonnes of carbon dioxide in their lifetime, while enhancing biodiversity and benefiting local communities.
# Taylor Swift, SZA, and Ice Spice were some of the big winners at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in Los Angeles. Swift won six awards including Artist of the Year, while SZA took home four awards including Song of the Year for her hit Kill Bill. Best New Pop Artist went to Jelly Roll and Miley Cyrus won Pop Song of the Year for Flowers. Beyoncé received the Innovator Award and her acceptance speech centred on the fortitude required to be an innovator:
# And finally: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire stands as the third-highest-grossing movie of the year. Three days after its release, the Warner Brothers and Legendary Entertainment movie has collected around 3.7-billion-rand globally. Directed by Adam Wingard, it stars Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens. Dune: Part Two is still the biggest movie of the year followed by Kung Fu Panda 4. Godzilla x Kong producer Mary Parent says they wanted to deliver something highly entertaining to audiences.
