# Oscar winner Charlize Theron has joined a star-studded cast of Christopher Nolan‘s highly-anticipated upcoming movie. Details about the movie’s storyline have been kept confidential. The South African actress, producer, and philanthropist joins an ensemble cast that already features Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Robert Pattinson. Universal and Nolan’s follow-up to their Oscar-winning drama Oppenheimer is projecting a production start date of the middle of next year.
# The South African State Theatre is set to launch a streaming platform for South Africans to experience live performances from the comfort of their own homes. This initiative is designed to bring the magic of live theatre to audiences who might not be able to attend in person. The theatre’s artistic director, Aubrey Sekhabi, says the platform promises to showcase a variety of performances including plays, musicals, and possibly other live events. The streaming service will go live on Saturday.
# The Africa Race Together Foundation will host 215 Grade 10 and 11 learners from various high schools at the upcoming Kyalami 9-Hour event in Gauteng. The event, one of the biggest on the South African motorsport calendar, will see the final round of the Southern African Endurance Series South African National Championship. The foundation says the learners will be introduced to career opportunities within the motorsport industry that extend beyond the driver’s role. The event will be on Friday and Saturday.
# The City of Cape Town says as many as 16-thousand toys were donated as part of the 42nd Toy Run Cape Town. The annual charity drive collects toys for children in foster homes, children’s homes and places of safety. The metro’s Fire and Rescue Service also participated in the Toy Run. Mayoral committee Member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says they have committed to exploring additional options to sustain such collection drives throughout the coming year, utilising fire stations as accessible drop-off facilities.
# And finally: Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Treasure, is introducing new features with a surge in new cruise passengers. According to the Cruise Lines International Association, there were a total of 31.7 million cruise passengers worldwide in 2023, almost seven-percent more than the last pre-pandemic year, 2019. On the Treasure, Disney fans will find the first cruise ship bar themed to a Disney ride: the Haunted Mansion, while the lounge has an aquarium with a special effect. Treasure will take its maiden voyage next month.
