# University of Pretoria choir, Tuks Camerata, has been nominated for the South African Music Awards. The recognition is for its latest album, uJehova, in the category for Best Traditional Faith Music Album. The 13-track album is a tribute to South Africa’s 30 years of democracy and the country’s cultural heritage. This nomination marks Tuks Camerata’s fourth recognition by the SAMAs. The choir comprises 78 full-time students from across disciplines, including medicine, engineering and law.
# The Santa Shoebox Project has reached 61-percent of its pledge target after opening individual pledges in September. Each year, the project collects and distributes personalised gifts of essential items and treats for underprivileged children throughout South Africa and Namibia. In 18 years, over 1.2-million children have been reached. Each box, which is specific to the needs of a child at a certain age, is packed with items including toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, educational supplies, an outfit of clothing, and a toy.
# The City of Johannesburg is offering 200 bursaries for eligible South African youth wishing to enrol in full-time undergraduate programmes in 2025. Candidates must reside in Johannesburg. Fields of study include actuarial science, engineering, nursing, and marketing. The metro says it is committed to providing skills development and educational opportunities, not only for its employees but also for the Johannesburg community at large. Applications close on the fourth of November.
# Tshwane University of Technology vice-chancellor, professor Tinyiko Maluleke, has encouraged newly minted graduates to seize all the opportunities they get. The institution’s spring graduation season commenced yesterday, with one-thousand-902 graduates including 65 doctoral graduates. Maluleke says from the first year to the final year, TUT students are taught to work purposefully, constantly, and consistently. He has urged graduates to play their part in ridding the world of hunger, poverty, inequality and climate change.
# And finally: Oscar-winning actor Will Smith will be the guest of honour at the Saudi Film Confex, taking place in Saudi Arabia’s capital of Riyadh from today until Saturday. The event gathers local and international industry experts to discuss how to advance and strengthen the Saudi film industry. Organisers say Smith will share his creative visions and reflections on his career, inspiring a new future in the film industry. Smith’s Bad Boys: Ride or Die starring Martin Lawrence, recently became Saudi Arabia’s highest-grossing film of all time.
