Good afternoon, here is your Good News:
# Renowned chef Pieter Malan is gearing up to represent South Africa at the prestigious IKA Culinary Olympics in Stuttgart, Germany. With a reputation for infusing unique African flavours and innovative cooking techniques, he has qualified as an individual competitor in the Culinary Art category. Currently serving as the group executive chef for the Fiesta Hotel Group in Ghana, Malan’s culinary prowess earned him the honour of Most Admired Executive Chef at the Hospitality Awards Africa last year. Malan expressed his excitement at being part of this competition:
# Award-winning actor Tom Cruise has signed a new deal to develop and produce theatrical films with Warner Brothers Discovery. The movies will be a mix of original productions and franchise fare and will star Cruise. He has worked at Warner Brothers in the past, but it has been a decade since he appeared in the studio’s Edge of Tomorrow. The company says it is excited to welcome Cruise back and looks forward to bringing more of his genius to life on screen in the years ahead.
# The City of Cape Town is encouraging locals to explore their city and discover the beauty within their own community. It says there are many ways to enjoy Cape Town without having to spend a fortune. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says he spotlights 50 things to do for under 50-rand, inviting Capetonians to experience the Mother City while supporting the local economy:
# Cape Town adventure swimmer Kim Prytz has etched her name in the record books by conquering the Robben Island Crossing swimming breaststroke. Prytz swam the 19.8 kilometers in 14 hours, 13 minutes, and 3 seconds, without the assistance of a wetsuit. Dubbed the ‘Reconciliation Swim,’ this remarkable achievement also served a charitable purpose, as 49-year old Prytz dedicated her swim to supporting the Goedgedacht Trust. The trust actively contributes to the transformation of disadvantaged rural communities in the Western Cape.
# And finally: A rodent named “Welsh Tidy Mouse” has been sneaking into 75-year-old Rodney Holbrook’s shed in Powys in Wales every night since early October. Holbrook noticed items in his shed were mysteriously put away at night. He realised something was happening when the nuts he kept for the birds disappeared from a little box and some items started being put into it. Holbrook set up a camera and got videos of the mouse tidying up. “Welsh Tidy Mouse” might not live there permanently, but he’s back every night and for now left in peace.
