# South African rap artists Blxckie and Maglera Doe Boy have bagged a BET Hip Hop Awards nomination. They are nominated in the Best International Flow category, along with other artists including Odumodublvck, Ghetts, and Stefflon. Blxckie had his first US tour this year and dropped his latest album, See U Soon, in July. US rapper Megan Thee Stallion is the most nominated artist at the awards show this year with 12 nods. The award show will be held in Las Vegas on the eighth of October.
# The Department of Higher Education and Training has congratulated Philippus Saayman, who represented South Africa at the prestigious WorldSkills Lyon international competition in Lyon, France. He participated in the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning skill category and won the coveted Best of Nation gold medal. Saayman stood out among over one-thousand-400 talented young professionals from 69 countries, competing in 62 skill categories. The department says Philippus demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication to his craft.
# Walter Sisulu University Master of Science in Physiology and Anatomy student, Siphosethu Mgwili, has made it to the finals of the FameLab South Africa competition. FameLab is an international science communication and public speaking competition, that promotes science and technology by creating a platform for young scientists to find their voices and reach public audiences. WSU says Mgwili, whose research focuses on ground-breaking prosthetic leg inventions, has successfully demonstrated the ability to communicate complex scientific concepts to the public in an engaging and accessible manner.
# The Galileo Open Air Cinema is returning to Cape Town next month. People can enjoy a vibrant selection of films catering to all tastes, across genres like romance, comedy, drama, animation, musicals, and thrillers, all under the Cape Town and Winelands starry skies. Galileo Under the Stars will be at the Kirstenbosch Garden, Blaauwklippen, Nooitgedacht, Stellenbosch, and Franschhoek among other places. The open-air cinema experience will be from the 16th of October until the 17th of May next year, with tickets at 145-rand per person.
# And finally: Popstar Kylie Minogue will be embarking on her biggest world tour in more than a decade next year. The tour will open in her home country, Australia in February, before heading to Asia and eventually reaching the UK in May. The 56-year-old will be performing some classics and songs from her new album Tension II, set to be released on the 18th of next month. On the album are nine brand new songs, plus her latest dance hit Edge of Saturday Night.
