# An innovative partnership between Life Healthcare and leading medical-sector associations has launched a virtual platform, to support postgraduate candidates as they prepare for their exams to become medical specialists. The platform, Learn@CMSA, will support candidates, boost the level of knowledge within medical and dental professions, and ultimately help to improve the health of all South Africans. Life Healthcare CEO Peter Wharton-Hood says this is an investment in the development of medical knowledge among specialists and doctors, at a critical stage where they launch their careers.
# The University of Pretoria says its new training and skills development project for small-scale livestock farmers is helping farmers and contributing towards food security. The three-year project provides training to previously disadvantaged small-scale livestock farmers in the communities surrounding mining operations in the Tswaing and JB Marks Municipalities in the North West, and Fetakgomo Tubatse Municipality in Limpopo. The university says the project is also helping with biosecurity and putting the implementation of the National Agriculture and Agro-Processing Master Plan into action.
# Cape Town’s Mount Nelson, affectionately known as The Nellie or Pink Lady, has made the World’s 50 Best Hotels list. Ranked 28, Mount Nelson draws couples in the Planet Bar, families at the poolside, and multi-generational groups for afternoon tea. Capella Bangkok tops the list while last year’s winner Italy’s Passalacqua dropped to second and Rosewood Hong Kong in third. Cheval Blanc in Paris jumped up the list this year to fourth place and Hong Kong’s The Upper House ranked fifth.
# South African film Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight earned critical acclaim at the Toronto Film Festival. The film explores the story of a young girl who grew up in Zimbabwe, then Rhodesia, in the 1980s, as the country was transitioning from white rule to gaining its independence. The film is American-South African actress Embeth Davidtz’s directorial debut. Media personality, Anele Mdoda, who is one of the producers, says showcasing the film on the global stage has been special.
# And finally: The Princess of Wales has held her first engagement since revealing that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment. The 42-year-old Katherine resumed work by hosting a meeting at Windsor Castle. Kate provided the health update last week in a deeply personal video message. She said the past nine months had been challenging but she is looking forward to being back at work. Kate had received a course of chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer since February. She will resume a light schedule of duties for the remainder of the year.
