# Two South African wildlife conservationists, Petronel Nieuwoudt and Kerri Wolter have been nominated for the 2025 Indianapolis Prize. Often referred to as the Nobel Prize for animal conservation, the award showcases the inspiring work of animal conservationists around the world and their achievements. Forty-four leaders in animal conservation have been nominated. Nieuwoudt is the founder and CEO of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, while Wolter is the founder and manager of VulPro.
# The Gauteng Health Department says between April and August this year, it issued schools with free hearing aids, in a bid to ensure there are no barriers to learning. This is part of the Integrated School Health Programme. The department’s spokesperson, Khutso Rabothata says out of a total of 33-thousand-813 grade one learners and around 36-thousand grade eight learners who were screened, 875 were identified as having hearing problems:
# The Soweto Theatre will honour the late Simphiwe ‘Mandoza’ Tshabalala with a musical tribute, Nkalakatha: Road to 25 Years this week. It celebrates his legacy and the 25th anniversary of his hit song Nkalakatha. It is regarded as South Africa’s unofficial anthem. The Mandoza Foundation CEO, Mpho Tshabalala told Newzroom Afrika that the tour will visit four provinces:
# Mpumalanga Culture, Sport, and Recreation MEC Leah Mabuza has announced that renowned Ndebele artist Esther Mahlangu’s designs will adorn the columns of three new libraries in Nkangala, Gert Sibanda, and Ehlanzeni. This initiative honours Mahlangu’s work and encourages the community to explore the art space. The announcement was made during the handover of an art studio to Mahlangu at her Kwa-Ndebele home, promoting cultural preservation and artistic legacy.
# And finally: Japan-set samurai series Shogun and The Bear were the big winners at the 76th Emmy Awards held in Los Angeles. The Bear won five awards including Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jeremy Allen White. Shogun earned four Emmys, becoming the first ever non-English language series to win Best Drama, along with wins for lead actor, actress, and directing. Netflix’s Baby Reindeer also picked up four wins, including best limited or anthology series. The Daily Show won the Emmy for best talk series.
