# Disney Africa and Sunshine Cinema are celebrating the 30th anniversary of The Lion King with solar-powered community screenings in isiZulu. This initiative will bring the iconic film to Cape Town and Durban, the Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng. The programme aims to foster storytelling, inclusivity, and social change. This initiative also serves Disney’s purpose, as the company is warming up a South African audience ahead of the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to the original heading to cinemas on 20th December.
# University of Fort Hare music student and renowned traditional Gwijo singer, Vuyisani Sholo, has been nominated for two South African Traditional Music Awards. He has been nominated in the song of the year category as well as the best isiXhosa artist for his song, Andina Blesser Mna. Sholo says he hopes to serve as a role model for other musicians, demonstrating the importance of both preserving tradition and embracing innovation.
# Morgan Wallen has received the most nominations for the Country Music Awards with seven including male vocalist of the year. Kelsea Ballerini, Ashley McBryde, and Kacey Musgraves are some of the nominees for Female Vocalist of the Year. Artists who made the grade for the album of the year include Kacey Musgraves’ Deeper Well, Chris Stapleton’s Higher, and Jelly Roll’s Whitsitt Chapel. Meanwhile, Beyoncé has been snubbed despite having one of the biggest country hits of the year with Texas Hold ‘Em. The awards will be held in November.
# The WorldSkills Team South Africa is set to represent the country in Lyon, France, in the 47th WorldSkills International Competition. Supported by the Department of Higher Education and Training, the event will host over one-thousand-500 participants from 65 countries, showcasing 61 global vocational skills. The initiative promotes artisanal careers, addressing South Africa’s critical shortage of skilled artisans.
# And finally, non-profit organisation, Outside the Bowl Africa, has launched its Million Meals in Five Days campaign, kicking off this week. This ambitious initiative aims to provide one million nutritious meals within a five-day window to underserved areas across South Africa. The organisation’s CEO, Mark Maingard, says the campaign aims to raise 2.5-million-rand to cover the costs of sourcing ingredients, production, and distribution:
