# The National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa says industrial symbiosis can make waste management more efficient, and reduce landfill dependency. Industrial symbiosis essentially means waste generated by an industrial process is redirected for reuse as a new input into another process by one or more other companies. The centre’s Victor Manavhela says the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions and the transition towards a less fossil-dependent industry is vital.
# The City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre says during the past six months, it has completed 451 public education and awareness sessions across the city. The recent sessions included community-based risk assessment workshops, climate change programmes and first aid training. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the focus is on climate change and the social and economic impact it has on the global population and environment, plastic pollution, composting and food security:
# And finally: The City of Tshwane’s Emergency Services is warning residents the current heatwave will persist until tomorrow. The South African Weather Service is predicting high temperatures peaking at 37 degrees over the next two days. The metro’s spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says residents are urged to be aware of adverse effects that may be caused by extended exposure to extreme heat weather conditions:
