# The Tshwane University of Technology’s Solar Car Project Team has been awarded the prestigious International Council of Academies of Engineering and Technological Sciences Communication Prize for 2025 in Australia. The university’s entry titled, Sustainable Automotive Technologies: a TUT Case Study, beat finalists from China, India, the US, the Netherlands, the UK, Australia, Poland, Mexico and Uruguay. Solar Car Project co-manager, Johannes de Vries, says the project is about embracing sustainable technology:
Meanwhile, renewable energy company Scatec says it has made significant progress in its South African electric vehicle pilot project. The project is in Kenhardt and Upington in the Northern Cape. Scatec says the pilot project has already demonstrated that with clever scheduling and charging stations, EVs can be seamlessly integrated into day-to-day operations with minimal disruption. The project forms part of a series of net-zero initiatives implemented by Scatec to reduce emissions across its own operations and supply chain.
# And finally: A partnership between the City of Cape Town and The Litterboom Project has resulted in more than 23 tonnes of waste being removed from rivers and canals since May. Through the metro’s grant funding, the project has installed eight new litterbooms across the metro. Mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says Litterboom also takes plastic pollution in rivers and converts it into raw material for the production of useful items:
