Good afternoon, here is your Eco Minute:
# Cape Town has been ranked ninth in Time Out’s global survey of the best cities for access to nature and green spaces. The metro ranks with Abu Dhabi, known for its 200 parks and beaches, and Chicago, which boasts over 600 parks and a long-standing commitment to urban greenery. The poll, based on over 18-thousand-500 votes, highlights Cape Town’s blend of urban life and outdoor beauty. Locals and visitors alike say they enjoy spaces like the Company’s Garden and Table Mountain.
# Global leaders from South Africa, Brazil, and the United States have gathered in Cape Town with representatives from the African Union and Europe to discuss global sustainability. The F20 Climate Solutions Forum, hosted at Kirstenbosch, focuses on governance, climate finance, and a just energy transition. The conference aims to build trust and drive inclusive climate action through international collaboration and policy-shaping on sustainability and energy transformation.

Last month, the cabinet authorised a plan to shoot about a quarter of the country’s one-thousand-300 brown bears after some recent fatal encounters. It has been criticised by conservationists and opposition politicians, including in the European Parliament. However, Slovakia’s government is forging ahead with the plan and announced that meat from culled bears would be sold to prevent waste.
