# A rare Sable Cruiser dragonfly was spotted near Renishaw Hills Community Centre on KwaZulu-Natal’s Mid-South Coast. This is only the 20th such sighting in South Africa. The image was uploaded to iNaturalist, where experts confirmed the identification. The sighting may be the southernmost ever recorded. Renishaw Hills, developed with conservation in mind, is home to 75 dragonfly and damselfly species. Scientists say the discovery highlights the importance of tracking biodiversity shifts.
# The City of Cape Town’s Urban Waste Management Directorate is urging residents to comment on its proposed budget priorities for the 2025/26 financial year before May the second. The budget includes improving the reliability of the refuse collection and cleansing service and bettering waste minimisation capacity. Mayoral committee member for Urban Waste Management, Grant Twigg, says the metro is making major investments in enhanced waste management services over the next three years:
# And finally: Namibia’s president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has called for the establishment of a nuclear power plant in the country. This follows a meeting she recently had with Russia’s deputy Prime minister, Yury Trutnev, to explore avenues of cooperation in nuclear energy. Nandi-Ndaitwah says Namibia needs a mix of reliable and clean energy to grow the economy and lift people out of poverty. South African energy expert, Chris Yelland, says countries with low electricity demand should not have one big nuclear reactor:
