# Independent power producer SolarAfrica has reached financial close on the first 114-megawatt component of its flagship utility-scale solar project, SunCentral, in the Northern Cape. The plant, which will be developed in three phases, will deliver renewable energy to various off-takers by wheeling it through the country’s power grid. A total of 1.8-billion-rand has been invested into the project. SolarAfrica’s Charl Alheit says SunCentral will unlock access to cheaper, greener power for more businesses across the country.
# Deputy minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala, says there is a need for innovative construction and building methods to save lives amid risks from adverse weather conditions. He officially opened the Construction and Built Environment Stakeholder Forum and Expo in Pretoria. The theme for the event is, Building Stronger Partnerships for Sustainable Innovation. Zikalala says the construction industry needs to enhance competitiveness and adapt to climate change:
# And finally: SANParks says the fire that broke out on the Newlands Ravine at Table Mountain National Park on Sunday morning has flared up again. This is due to strong winds overnight, which have fanned the flames over Devil’s Peak ridge. SANParks spokesperson, Charles Phahlane, says the fire has since spread toward Tafelberg Road and Vredehoek. He adds that fire management teams have been diverted to various sections along Tafelberg Road, Red Hill and its surrounding areas to contain the fire:
