# The Western Cape Bee Industry Association is warning of the rise in honey bee poisonings across the province, which is endangering biodiversity and food security. According to Daily Maverick, a Worcester beekeeper, who provides large-scale pollination services to agricultural farms, reported a loss of more than 600 of his colonies on a single blueberry farm. The association has condemned what it says is the careless and often uninformed use of agricultural chemicals, which pose a severe threat to food production, the environment, and the livelihoods of beekeepers.
# Parliament’s select committee on Public Infrastructure says combatting marine oil pollution is not only an environmental concern, it is also an economic, social, and legal imperative. The committee heard joint oral submissions from stakeholders on the Marine Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response, and Cooperation Bill. Committee chairperson, Rikus Badenhorst, says South Africa is required to adopt measures to prepare for and respond to potential oil spills in the country’s maritime domain:
# And finally: A groundbreaking auction of iconic Hollywood stage and screen looks, Give A Frock LA, is running bids online until next Tuesday. This initiative, spearheaded by celebrity stylist Lindsey Hartman, is aiming to raise funds for those affected by the wildfires in Los Angeles. Celebrities including Cher, Pamela Anderson, Charli XCX, Kelly Rowland, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sabrina Carpenter have donated outfits. Hartman says the auction is a powerful testament to the entertainment industry’s commitment to its community:
