# Researchers are increasingly utilising artificial intelligence to safeguard endangered species. By analysing extensive data, AI helps identify behavioural patterns, enabling early interventions to prevent ecological disruptions. This technological approach seeks to enhance conservation efforts by providing insights into species’ habits and environmental changes. Speaking to Deutsche Welle, Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research’s, Ortwin Aschenborn, says the integration of AI in conservation strategies represents a significant advancement in preserving biodiversity:
# The Alliance to End Plastic Waste seeks to examine cost-effective opportunities for the mechanical recycling of plastic. The alliance released its third Solution Model playbook, titled Capturing Value Through Basic Mechanical Recycling of Mixed Plastic Waste. This guide explores practical recycling models suitable for both low-income and developed regions, focusing on converting mixed plastic waste into products like furniture and construction materials. The playbook further aims to make recycling accessible and economically viable worldwide.
# And finally: Scientists have pointed to undeniable links between climate change and the destructive wildfires currently ranging on in Los Angeles. Twenty-four people have so far died from the fires with 16 reported missing. Stellenbosch University professor, Guy Midgley, told the Daily Maverick that the wildfires have been exacerbated by a combination of prolonged drought, powerful Santa Ana winds, and dry vegetation, which are a result of the world coming off the hottest year on record and less winter rainfall in the Mediterranean regions.
