# The Department of Health will host a two-day event in the Eastern Cape to commemorate World Environmental Health Day, which is tomorrow. This year’s theme is, Creating Resilient Communities through Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation. The department says climate change and disaster risks are fundamental threats to sustainable development, the living and health conditions for all humans on the globe and the reduction of poverty. It adds that building resilient and sustainable communities means addressing both climate change and disaster risks.
# The DA says the Free State’s natural beauty needs better management to attract tourists and boost the economy. The party states that the province’s rich heritage and recreational offerings have the potential to create jobs and address social issues. The party urges local governments to improve basic services like electricity and water to support tourism, as poor delivery is hindering development. The DA’s Werner Pretorius urges residents to vote for effective leadership in 2026 to unlock the province’s potential:
# And finally: United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has urged governments to put forward ambitious national climate action plans, that align with the goal of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius. He says the world is in a climate meltdown, with extreme temperatures, raging fires, droughts, and epic floods. Guterres says these are not natural disasters, they are human disasters, increasingly fuelled by fossil fuels:
