# Two South African wildlife conservationists, Petronel Nieuwoudt and Kerri Wolter have been nominated for the 2025 Indianapolis Prize. Often referred to as the Nobel Prize for animal conservation, the award showcases the inspiring work of animal conservationists around the world and their achievements. Forty-four leaders in animal conservation have been nominated. Nieuwoudt is the founder and CEO of Care for Wild Rhino Sanctuary, while Wolter is the founder and manager of VulPro.
# Earth4All says there is a demand for stronger environmental protections to safeguard the planet for future generations. A Global Commons Survey found that 85-percent of South Africans believe CEOs and senior government officials should face criminal charges, for approving actions that cause significant environmental damage. The study surveyed 22-thousand participants across 22 countries, including 18 G20 countries. Earth4All says immediate action is needed this decade to tackle climate change and protect nature.
# And, at least seven people have drowned in Austria, Poland, and Romania, as the heaviest rain in years has hit central and eastern Europe, causing flooding. About four people are missing in the Czech Republic, as 80-per-cent of the Silesian town of Krnov is underwater. Red alerts, the highest level of warning, have been issued for portions of Poland, Germany, the Czech Republic, Austria, and Slovakia. The European Union has offered to assist countries dealing with the downpours.
