# Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dion George, says it is important to ensure a balanced climate agenda that addresses issues critical to developing countries, and to pressure developed countries to fulfil their commitments. The minister is attending the eighth session of the ministerial on Climate Action in Wuhan, China, today and tomorrow. The department’s spokesperson, Peter Mbelengwa, says key issues related to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change will be discussed:
# Open Society Foundations will commit 7.3-billion-rand over eight years to develop green industrial policies supporting economic growth in the Global South. The new Economic and Climate Prosperity programme will fund initiatives in the Americas, Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The funding seeks to promote economic prosperity and address climate challenges. The programme will support civil society organisations and independent think tanks in South Africa, Senegal, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mexico.
# And the DA in Gauteng says it notes the plans outlined by the Department of Environmental Affairs to combat climate change in the province. It says as South Africa’s economic hub, Gauteng stands as a significant contributor to carbon emissions and is not immune to the impacts of climate change. The DA’s Leanne de Jager says tackling climate change is a critical issue that requires collaborative efforts across all levels of government and society:
