# The Energy Council of South Africa has welcomed the passing of the Climate Change Bill by Parliament. The bill seeks to enable the development of an effective climate change response and a long-term just transition, to a low-carbon and climate-resilient economy. The council’s CEO, James Mackay, says the bill recognises that South Africa has a vital role to play in the global effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and that Southern Africa is especially vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
# A leading advocate for sustainable metal packaging solutions, MetPac-SA, is sponsoring an innovative new series of videos about recycling. The Plant the Seed series aims to highlight the importance of creating a circular economy in which businesses, schools and communities are assisted with their recycling and waste management solutions. CEO Kishan Singh says education is key to driving positive change towards a more sustainable future.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Directorate says it has started early with preventative flood maintenance on the Spaanschemats River in Constantia. The scope of work to clear the river pathway includes collection and clearing of litter, trimming of alien invasive plants, and exposure of stormwater infrastructure. Mayoral committee member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, says the city has invested 700-thousand-rand into the preventative flood maintenance of the river:
