# A driver escapes unhurt after a diesel tanker catches fire and explodes in Durban
# The National Assembly will only vote in January over the removal of two judges

# No-one was injured in this morning’s explosion of a tanker carrying diesel on the N3 freeway in Durban. The driver pulled over and fled when the vehicle caugt fire, and thick plumes of smoke billowed from the tanker before it exploded. One side of the dual carriageway was affected, but was re-opened a few hours later. Sindi KaNgidi Msimang of the Road Traffic Information Centre says the cause of the incident will be investigated. She warned commuters to be careful in the area.
# The National Assembly will only vote in January over the removal of judges John Hlophe and Nkola Motata due to lack of a suitable venue. A special sitting will be convened to decide on the matter. Motata is a retired Gauteng High Court judge with a driving under the influence judgment against him. The suspended Western Cape Judge president tried to influence two Constitutional Court justices in a case against former president Jacob Zuma. The Judicial Service Commission found both guilty of gross misconduct.
# The DA in Johannesburg is calling on councillor Loyiso Masuku and city manager, Floyd Brink to resign in shame for their role in the irregular diversion of funds to pay for a 2.6-million-rand party for 500 employees. The DA’s Nicole Rahn says it was reported in the media that money was diverted from travel allowances to pay for the event:
# Israeli police say the two attackers in this morning’s deadly shooting at a bus stop in Jerusalem were brothers from a neighbourhood in the east of the city. Three people were killed and several injured, while off-duty soldiers and a civilian shot dead the brothers who are described as members of Hamas previously jailed for terror activity. They were identified as Murad and Ibrahim Namr. The Times of Israel reports security measures have been ramped up after the incident, including added patrols and roadblocks.
# Rugby: The Springbok Sevens team are in the United Arab Emirates for the Dubai Sevens on Saturday and Sunday, as the new season gets underway. The Blitzboks has a good track record in Dubai and can look forward to some passionate support, but they will not take anything for granted. Experienced forward Impi Visser says they are eager to bounce back from a disappointing campaign last season:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-83-cents and the euro at 20-rand-59-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-83-cents and Bitcoin trades at 37-thousand-871-dollars-73-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-and-39-dollars-95-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 83-dollars-75-cents a barrel.
