# The Department of Correctional Services says Oscar Pistorius will be monitored until his sentence expires. The convicted paralympian will be released on parole to complete the remainder of his sentence under community corrections. The department’s Singabakho Nxumalo says his parole, effective from 5 January, is subject to supervision and compliance with parole conditions:
# Turkish power ships operator Karpowership has received environmental authorisation for a gas-fired power plant in Saldanha Bay on the West Coast. This follows approval of its 450-megawatt plant in Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast, despite legal challenges. The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment gave Karpowership permission to install a 320-megawatt plant in Saldanha. The company says the approvals are critical milestones in its journey to combat South Africa’s energy crisis. It also wants to install a plant at Ngqura in the Eastern Cape.
# The Civil Aviation Authority will conduct an investigation after an instructor and a student pilot were seriously injured when a helicopter crashed in Midrand, Gauteng, last night. The R44 Raven II (two) came down near a security estate and was substantially damaged. The CAA says its team of accident and incident investigators will collect evidence and examine the wreckage to define the scope of the investigation. A preliminary report will be issued within a month.
# Rugby: Springbok fullback Willie le Roux will make his debut for the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld tomorrow. Other World Cup winning team members Marco van Staden will wear the number 6 jersey and utility back Canan Moodie is on the bench for the United Rugby Championship clash with Irish side, Connacht. Bulls director of rugby Jake White picked Jaco van der Walt at flyhalf with Zak Burger at scrumhalf. The bench includes Embrose Papier and Chris Smith.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-92-cents and the euro at 20-rand-65-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-79-cents and Bitcoin trades at 37-thousand-650-dollars-86-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-41-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars a barrel.
# And finally: National Debt Advisors issued a caution against reckless spending. National Debt Advisors’ quality assurer, Quinton Ramohlabi, emphasises the importance of responsible financial planning in light of the rising cost of living. Ramohlabi urges shoppers to draft comprehensive budgets before indulging in Black Friday deals. Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, he suggests leveraging online shopping platforms that may offer better discounts. Ramohlabi warns that without a budget, consumers may be susceptible to overspending:
