# Kusile’s unit 2 back is online ahead of schedule
# And, the World Health Organisation warns of explosive outbreaks of infectious diseases in Gaza
# The South African Post Office business rescue practitioners say the business rescue plan hinges on a further allocation of 3.8-billion-rand to serve as a capital buffer to restore confidence in the state-owned entity. However, this cash injection would not save six-thousand employees from being retrenched. Business rescuers Anoosh Rooplal and Juanito Damons say to facilitate retrenchment packages 600-million-rand will be needed. They add the Post Office’s lack of investment in its infrastructure has resulted in a decline in its operational efficiency and customer service capabilities.
# Kusile power station’s unit two was synchronised to the grid yesterday, two days ahead of schedule. The unit will add 800 megawatts to the grid. Eskom’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena, says this marks another significant milestone in the power utility’s generation operational recovery plan, which aims at increasing the energy availability factor to 70-percent by March 2025:
# The South African Federation of Trade Unions says it is shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of life of eleven mineworkers at Impala Platinum Mine in Rustenburg, North West. The workers died after the conveyance cage that took workers down a mine shaft and back to the surface broke. Saftu’s national spokesperson, Trevor Shaku, says by now mine health and safety should have improved to zero injuries and fatalities in the country:
# The World Health Organisation in occupied Palestinian territory is warning that Gaza is at high risk of explosive outbreaks of infectious diseases. It says intense overcrowding and the disruption of health, water, and sanitation systems are exacerbating the situation. Almost three-quarters of hospitals in Gaza and two-thirds of primary health care clinics have shut down. WHO says it is calling for a full ceasefire, sustained access to aid into Gaza, protection of civilians and healthcare, and respect for international humanitarian law.
# Netball: The Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture has announced the appointment of five members to the independent advisory panel on the sport. This seeks to develop a netball arena aimed at enhancing the development, sustainability, and competitiveness of netball in South Africa. Minister Zizi Kodwa says the panel will craft a blueprint for the sport in the country, undertake a review of strategy, work towards increasing mass participation, and strive to position netball as a sport of first choice in communities:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-56-cents and the euro at 20-rand-43-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-61-cents and Bitcoin trades at 37-thousand-973-dollars-80-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-44-dollars-25-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 81-dollars-35-cents a barrel.
