# Eskom urges the public to conserve electricity, especially during peak times
# And, rugby: The Cheetahs beat a determined Boland in an SA Cup clash in Bloemfontein
# Camouflaged gunmen with automatic weapons killed at least 60 concertgoers near Moscow, injuring 145 more in an attack claimed by Islamic State militants. Another 60 people were in a critical condition. Reuters reports in the deadliest attack in Russia since the 2004 Beslan school siege, gunmen attacked civilians just before Soviet-era rock group “Picnic” was to perform in the full-house six-thousand-200-seat Crocus City Hall west of Moscow. In the 2004 Beslan school siege, Islamist militants took more than a thousand people, including hundreds of children, hostage. US intelligence has confirmed Islamic State’s claim, and says it warned Russia two weeks ago.
# Eskom says following the resumption of stage three load-shedding until five this morning, stage two load-shedding will follow until eight tonight. Thereafter, stage three will resume until five tomorrow morning. This decision was made in order to replenish emergency reserves and address the loss of three generating units. Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena reminds the public to conserve electricity, especially during peak times, to alleviate pressure on the power system:
# ActionSA is gearing up for its much-anticipated national manifesto launch today at Ellis Park Arena in Johannesburg. Party leader Herman Mashaba will deliver the keynote address, outlining the party’s plan to fix South Africa. The manifesto will address key issues such as economic growth, education, the energy crisis, law and order, and immigration. Spokesperson, Samkelo Mgobozi, says this launch marks a significant step for ActionSA in its mission to steer the country towards recovery and global prominence.
# The Freedom Front Plus hopes the National Prosecuting Authority’s action against National Assembly speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nakula for alleged corruption will end the ANC’s decades-long practice of using the South African National Defence Force for personal gain. The FF Plus states Mapisa-Nqakula faced scandals as Defence minister. Party leader Pieter Groenewald calls for the minister of Defence and Military Veterans Thandi Modise’s resignation, accusing her of continuing Mapisa-Nqakula’s legacy of financial mismanagement, leading to the collapse of the defence force and arms industry:
# And, rugby: The Cheetahs got their SA Cup campaign off to a winning start in Bloemfontein yesterday evening with a 38-7 win against the Boland Cavaliers. Despite the scoreline, the Cheetahs were made to work hard for the win, and they were matched physically by the team from Wellington. The Cheetahs scored six tries, of which four were converted by veteran Ruan Pienaar against one converted try by Boland.
