# Western Cape MEC for Mobility, Ricardo Mackenzie is calling on employers to sign up to participate in the Getting YOU to Work pilot initiative. The provincial government is offering jobseekers free travel to interviews using Golden Arrow Bus Services. The free travel voucher is offered to interview candidates by registered employers. Mackenzie says the vouchers can be used on any GABS bus, on weekdays from 8am to 4pm:
# The Help A Paw pilot project, introducing an animal ambulance service this month, has reported significant strides in helping animals that need medical attention. Many community animals lack access to necessary care due to transportation constraints. Acting as a pet Uber service, the ambulance facilitates grooming and physio drop-offs, aiming to support animal welfare. Help A Paw expects this initiative to address the transportation gap of animals and enhance overall animal well-being in communities.
# The City of Tshwane says the new Lusaka Clinic in Mamelodi will be a flagship project for the metro as it will be the first green clinic of its kind. Lusaka Clinic is designed around green building principles, including central courtyards to bring in fresh air, and water storage and external shading to reduce heat transfer, among others. Mayoral committee member for Health, Rina Marx says to date, the project has created 60 temporary employment opportunities:
# Hollywood A-lister Christian Bale has initiated the construction of 12 foster homes in Palmdale, California, as part of his non-profit, Together California. The project, 16-years in the making, aims to enhance the foster care system. These homes will ensure foster siblings stay together, each featuring three-bedroom town homes with professionally trained foster parents. The village includes studio apartments and a big community centre. Inspired by the birth of his daughter in 2005, Bale hopes this effort becomes a model for addressing the challenges within California’s foster care system.
# And finally: Recycling crew members from the city of Greenville in the United States showcased remarkable dedication and compassion as they embarked on a mission to recover a lost wedding ring. Melanie Harper’s accidental separation with her precious white gold and diamond band during recycling prompted her to seek assistance from the city’s public works department. Led by Travis Golden, the diligent workers meticulously combed through the refuse, demonstrating unwavering commitment to their community. Their efforts culminated in the joyful reunion of Harper with her priceless ring.
