# The Border Management Authority successfully facilitated the departure of 933 Mozambican nationals through the Lebombo border post. The group included 38 minors, whose processing was overseen by the Department of Social Development. BMA spokesperson, Mmemme Mogotsi, says of those processed, 349 came from the Lindela holding facility as part of the Department of Home Affairs’ deportation programme, while 584 travelled from Mossel Bay with assistance from the Mozambican high commission:
# The Garden Route District Municipality has advised residents and tourists to avoid flooded roads, low-water crossings, and riverbanks, as heavy rainfall continues in parts of the Western Cape. Ninety-three residents from De Rust and Welgeluk were evacuated yesterday and are being accommodated at the Toekomsrus community hall. The municipality’s spokesperson, Herman Pieters, says rockfalls have also been reported on the N12 near Chandelier Game Lodge:
Moving abroad:
# The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution to limit president Donald Trump’s war powers in Iran. The vote was 215-to-208, with four Republicans crossing party lines to support the resolution. It still needs approval from the Republican-controlled Senate. This forces Trump to seek congressional backing for his military actions. House speaker Mike Johnson says a war powers resolution right now is very untimely, given the current US-Iranian peace negotiations:
# Rugby: Winger Donavan Don has replaced Dewald Human in the Springbok Sevens squad for the final World Championship event in Bordeaux, France, this weekend. Human sustained a knee injury in Spain last weekend, which prompted the playmaker’s return to South Africa. The Blitzboks won the first event in Hong Kong, but lost to Australia in the final in Spain. South Africa still leads the table with 38 points, followed by Argentina and Australia, as they look to win the title.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-28-cents and the euro at 18-rand-90-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-87-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-240-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-461-dollars-35-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 96-dollars-10-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting self-isolation to work on his recovery. He appeared in Parliament last week to deliver the department’s 2026/27 budget, and his most recent international travel was last month when he attended the World Hydrogen Summit in the Netherlands. The department encourages all those who have been in contact with Tau recently to get tested and exercise precautionary measures. It adds he is in good spirits.
