Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# BOSA says Cyril Ramaphosa must fund his own legal costs in the Phala Phala matter
# The Trump administration will admit an additional 10-thousand white South Africans into the US
# And rugby: The Stormers’ Project 2029 gained momentum with Kolbe’s signing
# Build One South Africa says South African taxpayers should not be forced to fund president Cyril Ramaphosa’s personal legal defence against the panel’s report into the Phala Phala saga. Ramaphosa has filed an application to the Western Cape High Court, urging it review and set aside the report, and invalidate any actions taken by the National Assembly pursuant to it. BOSA spokesperson, Roger Solomons, says Parliament’s impeachment process must proceed without obstruction:
# US president Donald Trump has signed a presidential determination to admit an additional ten-thousand white South Africans into America as refugees this year. This raises the limit from seven-thousand-500 to 17-thousand-500 in this fiscal year. Trump states an unforeseen emergency refugee situation now exists in South Africa, due to recent increases in the incitement of racially motivated violence on the part of the government and leaders of prominent political parties. He adds raising the refugee cap is justified.
# AfriForum says authorities must urgently implement a clear safety plan for the Kruger National Park following the murders of a Mossel Bay couple. The organisation calls for stronger patrols, faster emergency response systems, and improved communication channels for visitors. It has also offered to assist with drone surveillance to help improve security. AfriForum’s Lambert de Klerk says urgent action is needed to restore public confidence and better protect visitors:
Moving abroad:
# The World Health Organisation says the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ituri province is not only the epicentre of the deadly Ebola outbreak, but also one of the areas hardest hit by acute hunger. According to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification’s latest data, nearly ten million people are facing hunger across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, and Tanganyika. This is driven by conflict, economic pressures, limited access to essential services and weakened infrastructure. The WHO says people weakened by hunger are far more vulnerable to infections.
# Rugby: The Stormers’ Project 2029 gained momentum with the signing of Springbok points machine Cheslin Kolbe. It is aimed at positioning the team to win the Champions Cup for the first time. Director of rugby John Dobson says they highly appreciate Kolbe’s financial sacrifice in order to be able to return to Cape Town, because he could’ve earned much more if he stayed in Japan. Dobson also denies this was a retirement job. Kolbe will join the Stormers in July.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-35-cents and the euro at 19-rand-4-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-99-cents and Bitcoin trades at 75-thousand-719-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-485-dollars-94-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 94-dollars-21-cents a barrel.
