# Premier Panyaza Lesufi accepts Nkhwashu’s apology following claims of false dockets
# And, rugby: The Stormers bounce back to demolish Glasgow
# We start this bulletin with breaking news from America:
President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were rushed out of the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner by Secret Service agents on Saturday night after a man armed with a shotgun tried to breach security. The armed man fired at a Secret Service agent who was not injured. The event was attended by two-thousand-600 people and eventually cancelled for the evening. Trump posted on social media that he hoped it could be rescheduled in 30 days. Saturday was the first time Trump has attended the correspondents’ dinner as president.
CBS News, reports that the suspect is believed to be a 31-year-old man from Torrence, based in the south-western suburbs of Los Angeles in California. He is receiving treatment in a nearby hospital and remains in police custody. During a press briefing Trump’s Attorney General, Todd Blanche, said that man would be charged very soon.
# Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi has acknowledged the apology made by suspended Tshwane Metro Police brigadier Abraham Nkhwashu for falsely claiming he was instructed to submit murder dockets, including the Armand Swart case in Vereeniging. Nkhwashu had testified that he was ordered to collect specific case dockets, and submit them to a provincial commissioner Tommy Mthombeni, implying involvement by Lesufi. Following Lesufi’s denial, Nkhwashu retracted his statement and formally apologised for inappropriately invoking the premier’s name during his testimony.
# Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber says seven more officials have been dismissed, bringing the total to 63 since July 2024. The Department has also issued 16 new suspensions as part of ongoing disciplinary action linked to findings by the Special Investigating Unit. Authorities say 75 of 95 misconduct cases have been finalised. Schreiber emphasised a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, saying the crackdown is restoring integrity and strengthening accountability within the department:
# The DA in Merafong is urging residents to submit evidence to the South African Human Rights Commission inquiry into Gauteng’s water crisis before Thursday next week. The Commission is investigating alleged service delivery failures, infrastructure collapse and possible human rights violations. DA’s Ina Cilliers says over 500 affidavits were already submitted in July 2025 and calls for more community input through surveys and sworn statements detailing water and sanitation failures:
And, rugby: The Stormers bounced back from last week’s defeat to Connacht with as emphatic performance as they outplayed Glasgow Warriors 48-12 at the Cape Town Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Stormers scored six tries to Glasgow’s two and marched back to the top of the United Rugby Championship log with two games to play. However, Springbok scrumhalf Cobus Reinach has become a sudden and significant injury concern. He was superb on the day but left the field in the second half with what seemed a serious knee injury.
