# Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi, has strongly condemned the killing of a lawyer in the Johannesburg CBD. According to reports, she was shot and killed near the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration offices at the corner of Fox and Joubert Streets yesterday. The deceased was a legal practitioner attached to Sibanye-Stillwater’s legal team. The ministry’s spokesperson, Terrence Manase, says the victim was reportedly involved in a labour dispute on behalf of the company at the time of her death:
# Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, says geopolitical developments won’t undermine the upcoming sixth edition of the South Africa Investment Conference. Conflict in the Middle East has grounded some of the conference’s most anticipated delegations, with some announcements at the conference expected to be live-streamed. An estimated one-thousand-250 delegates are expected to attend in person. Tau says they acknowledge the reality that the impact of the war is likely to have on investment decisions going forward:
# Gauteng Education MEC, Matome Chiloane, says violence against learners, whether within or outside school premises, is unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. This follows the fatal stabbing of two learners in separate incidents. The department’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, says a 17-year-old Grade 8 learner from Forest High School was allegedly severely beaten and stabbed last Friday. He says in the second incident, a Grade 12 boy learner from Daleview Secondary School in Ennerdale was fatally stabbed while walking home from school yesterday.
# The Freedom Front Plus says Gauteng’s new economic development plan is doomed to fail if it does not move away from the ANC’s ideological approach of managing the economy based on race instead of merit. The provincial government launched the Gauteng City Region Economic Growth and Development Plan 2030 last week. FF Plus’ Anton Alberts says the provincial government should establish subnational trade ties with states in the US:
# Rugby: New Zealand head coach, Dave Rennie, has confirmed his assistant coaching group and Head of Performance to take the team through to the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup. Neil Barnes has been appointed as the senior assistant coach, Jason Ryan is the forwards coach, Mike Blair is the attack coach, and Tana Umaga is the defence coach. Head of Performance is Phil Healey. Barnes, one of New Zealand’s most experienced coaches, says it is an honour and a huge challenge to be appointed:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-90-cents and the euro at 19-rand-60-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-66-cents and Bitcoin trades at 70-thousand-873-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-397-dollars-41-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 97-dollars-97-cents a barrel.
