Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Several American military aircrafts have crashed in Kuwait
# Parliament’s legal expert finds that Paul O’Sullivan may have breached the Parliamentary Act
# And motorsport: The Melbourne GP is not expected to be disrupted by transport chaos
# Kuwait’s Ministry of Defence says several US military aircraft crashed in the country early today, but all crew members survived and are in stable condition, as conflict widened across the Middle East. It says the crews were evacuated and transferred to hospitals. Iran’s state media cited the Islamic Revolutionary Guard as saying Iranian armed forces hit a US plane that crashed in Kuwait. A video taken in the Al Jahra area of Kuwait showed a military aircraft falling from the sky and a person parachuting in the same shot.
The Zambian government has meanwhile issued a travel and security advisory for citizens in or travelling to the Gulf region, including Bahrain, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates amid rising tensions following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. The Foreign Affairs Ministry urged Zambians to remain vigilant, stay indoors where possible, avoid military sites and postpone non-essential travels. Citizens are encouraged to contact nearby diplomatic missions and ensure valid travel documents as authorities monitor developments closely.
Back home:
# Parliament’s Constitutional Legal Services Office says forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan may have committed statutory offences when walking out of Parliament amid questioning. Parliament’s legal advisor, Telana Halley-Starkey, says his early departure potentially impeded the committee’s work, and he failed to answer questions fully. She says while O’Sullivan was not formally summoned, the committee may invoke its constitutional summons powers if he does not return to conclude his testimony on Thursday:
# Police at OR Tambo International Airport in Kempton Park, Gauteng, arrested a 64-year-old man linked to 42 armed robbery cases on the R24 near the Barbara off-ramp. Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says he was arrested after allegedly posing as a police official and robbing three senior officials from another African country. His car was traced within hours. Mathe says he will appear in the local Magistrates’ Court tomorrow:
# Motorsport: The organisers of the season’s first Formula One Grand Prix don’t expect any disruption to this coming weekend’s race in Melbourne, Australia, despite the transport chaos caused by the Middle Eastern conflict. Thousands of flights were cancelled since Israel and America attacked Iran on Saturday. Australia’s F1 chief, Travis Auld, says many drivers, engineers, team principals and other team members had been caught up in the disruption, but they could reshuffle flights and believe everyone will arrive on time.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-8-cents and the euro at 18-rand-86-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-56-cents and Bitcoin trades at 66-thousand-85-dollars. Gold sells at five-thousand-390-dollars-57-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-88-cents a barrel.
