# We start with cricket: South Africa thrashed defending champions India by 76 runs in Ahmedabad in their opening match of the Super Eight phase of the T20 World Cup. The Proteas recovered from 20 for three after four overs, with the help of David Miller’s 63, as they posted 187 for seven in their 20 overs. India slipped to 51 for five by the tenth over. Marco Jansen took four wickets as India were bowled out for 111. South Africa will face the West Indies on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Proteas Women took a 1-0 lead in their three-match one-day series against Pakistan with a 37-run victory in Bloemfontein. The game was reduced to 41 overs-a-side after rain delayed the start by over two-hours. Suné Luus top-scored with an unbeaten 93, with Sinalo Jafta scoring an unbeaten 57 as they powered South Africa to 260 for six. In reply, Ayesha Zafar scored 81, with Tumi Sekhukhune taking three wickets as Pakistan were bowled out for 223. The second ODI will be played in Centurion on Wednesday.
# Rugby: The world rankings changed significantly due to the weekend’s Six Nations results. Ireland improved two positions to third, behind South Africa and New Zealand, after hammering England 42-21 at Twickenham. France dropped one place to fourth despite beating Italy 33-8 in Lille, while England is now in fifth postion. Argentina stays in sixth, while Scotland improved from ninth to seventh after narrowly beating Wales 26-23 in Cardiff. Australia dropped one place to eighth, with Fiji ninth and Italy completing the top-ten.
# Golf: South African Casey Jarvis won the Kenya Open by three shots in Nairobi to secure his maiden DP World Tour title. The 22-year-old, ranked 195th in the world, posted an eight-under 62 for the final round and finished 25 under for the tournament. American Davis Bryant finished second with South African Hennie du Plessis in third. Jarvis says getting to win in front of his dad for the first time is amazing:
# And, Olympics: The Winter Olympics came to an end, with Norway topping the medals table with 41 – 18 gold, 12 silver and 11 bronze. Athletes from over 90 countries battled in 116 events in Italy over 16 days. The United States finished second with 33 medals – 12 gold, including a first in 46-years for the men’s ice hockey, 12 silver and nine bronze. Hosts Italy finished third with 30 medals, with Germany and Japan rounding out the top five. South Africa failed to win any medals.
