# Paul O’Sullivan insists he won’t testify about matters before 1990
# Tshwane’s water network is under severe strain amid a low inflow from Rand Water
# And golf: LIV Golf targets youth talent expansion, inclusivity and an economic boost for South Africa
# Forensic investigator Paul O’Sullivan has told Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing alleged political interference in the justice system he will not answer questions relating to matters before 1990, citing personal and family security concerns after multiple attempts on his life. His stance was challenged by EFF leader Julius Malema, who argued he was under oath to answer all questions. O’Sullivan insisted he would cooperate unless his safety was compromised:
# The City of Tshwane is facing severe strain on its water network due to low inflows from Rand Water. Several reservoirs, including Soshanguve, Kruisfontein and Mabopane, are critically low, while others remain stable but under pressure from high consumption. The city’s Selby Bokaba says high-lying and sensitive areas are struggling to maintain supply:
Meanwhile the City of Cape Town has called on residents to drastically reduce water usage after two major treatment plants were shut down due to a raw water supply interruption from Theewaterskloof Dam. Daily consumption has exceeded the 975-million-litre target, peaking at over one-thousand-and -50-million litres. Authorities warn that urgent water saving measures by households, businesses, and visitors are needed to protect reserves and avoid restrictions, as dam levels continue to fall.
# A top adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader discussed ways to reach a balanced and just agreement with the United States during talks in Oman. It comes amidst preparations by Washington and Tehran to resume negotiations aimed at averting a new conflict. Oman facilitated talks between the two countries last week after US president Donald Trump positioned a naval flotilla in the region, raising fears of new military action. He last month threatened with military intervention during a government crackdown on nationwide protests in Iran, but ultimately held off.
# Golf: LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neill says the introduction of LIV Golf in South Africa through the Southern Guards is aimed at growing the sport among the next generation. Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, O’Neill highlighted the launch of the Southern Guards academy to develop young rural talent. He says blending golf and entertainment will broaden access, especially for people of colour, while boosting tourism, job creation, and the local economy:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 15-rand-95-cents and the euro at 18-rand-98-cents. One British pound costs 21-rand-83-cents and Bitcoin trades at 68-thousand-457-dollars. Gold sells at five-thousand-33-dollars-21-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 69-dollars-2-cents a barrel.
