# Police detain two alleged bodyguards of Katiso ”KT” Molefe for possessing unlicensed firearms
# The DA urges president Ramaphosa to act against gender-based violence in the Western Cape
# And Golf: Tiger Woods says the rehabilitation for his disk replacement is a slow process
# Police have arrested two men outside the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court in Gauteng. The men, believed to be bodyguards of murder-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe, were allegedly found with two unlicensed AK-47 rifles and ammunition. A vehicle transporting the bodyguards was also seized after its registration plates did not match. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says the arrest follows Molefe’s court appearance. Mathe added that it’s crucial to prevent illegal firearms from being brought onto court premises.
# Build One South Africa has criticised political parties that voted against increasing the school pass mark to 50-percent. The motion, introduced by BOSA in Parliament, was opposed by the ANC, DA, Freedom Front Plus, and the Patriotic Alliance. Party leader Mmusi Maimane says the government must focus on supporting teachers and improving education, rather than maintaining lower academic standards:
# The DA in the Western Cape has highlighted the more than three-thousand sexual offences reported between April and September. The party’s Wendy Kaizer-Philander calls on president Cyril Ramaphosa to implement concrete measures, including stronger law enforcement, a national gender-based violence strategy, and survivor support. She says the provincial Department of Social Development has provided psycho-social services to more than 24-thousand victims, and shelter to two-thousand women and children:
# Gaza’s main gateway will open in the next few days, allowing thousands of Palestinians in need of medical care to leave the war-ravaged enclave through Egypt. The Israeli military says the opening of the Rafah crossing will be coordinated with Egypt, under supervision of the European Union. The United Nations says at least 16-thousand-500 patients need medical care outside of Gaza. Before the war, the Rafah crossing was the only direct exit point from Gaza and a key entry point for aid into the territory.
# Golf: Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods says his recovery from a back operation is not happening as quickly as he would like. The 49-year-old American underwent back surgery in October, his second in a little over a year and seventh overall since 2014. He also needed surgery earlier this year to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon. Woods, who last played at last year’s British Open, says he does not have a return date as yet:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-7-cents and the euro at 19-rand-92-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-71-cents and Bitcoin trades at 93-thousand-51-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-220-dollars-82-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-99-cents a barrel.
