# The Department of Home Affairs says 153 Palestinian travellers arriving at OR Tambo Airport in Gauteng yesterday were initially delayed due to missing departure stamps, return tickets, and accommodation details. Minister Leon Schreiber says further verification confirmed they were not seeking asylum. He says all were granted standard 90-day visa-exempt entry, with 23 travellers already continuing to other destinations:
# The FF Plus supported the motion of no confidence in Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi after the Public Protector found his policing project unconstitutional, contradicting his earlier assurances. The party’s Anton Alberst says while the party noted Gauteng’s history of maladministration, it also questioned the DA’s logic in bringing a motion it could not win, especially after seconding Lesufi’s 2024 nomination. He says FF Plus will continue its oversight role to protect Gauteng residents:
# Two adults and a one-year-old baby were shot in Westbury, Johannesburg, after gunmen chased a man who ran into the victims’ home. All victims were rushed to hospital in serious but stable condition. Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo confirmed a manhunt is underway and an attempted murder case has been opened. Last month, two teenagers were shot dead and five others wounded in a gang-related shooting. Four suspects have since been arrested.
# The US Justice Department is suing the state of California over a new Democratic-drawn congressional map that voters approved last week. Voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 50, a constitutional amendment changing the congressional boundaries to give Democrats a shot at winning five seats, now held by Republicans, in next year’s midterm elections. Attorney General Pam Bondi told Fox News Californian Democrats considered race when proposing the redrawn map in ways that advantage Hispanic voters:
# Soccer: The Turkish Federation has temporarily banned 102 top-tier club players over a widening betting scandal. Twenty-five players from the Super Lig and 77 from the second-tier first division have been suspended for terms ranging from 45 days to a year. More than one-thousand players have been referred to the federation’s Professional Disciplinary Board in the ongoing investigation. The probe has also revealed that 142 referees placed bets on more than one-thousand matches.
