# Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has welcomed the High Court in Johannesburg’s interdiction of Operation Dudula from harassing foreign nationals or demanding identity documents unlawfully. Makaneta called the ruling a victory for human rights, the Constitution, and the rule of law, as it protects vulnerable communities and learners. He urged South Africans to respect the rights of others and work together to ensure inclusive education and a just society for all:
# Gauteng police have arrested a 23-year-old man suspected of involvement in Saturday’s drive-by shooting in Reiger Park, in Boksburg. Acting provincial police commissioner Fred Kekana praised the anti-gang unit for their work. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi says the suspect is set to appear in Boksburg Magistrate’s Court tomorrow:
# Build One South Africa and the National Coloured Congress have been flagged for failing to submit their audited financial statements by the 30 September deadline. The Electoral Commission says all political parties are legally required to maintain proper financial records. During a media briefing, deputy chief electoral official Masego Sheburi said formal directions have been issued to both parties to ensure compliance:
# Russian forces are tightening their encirclement of Ukrainian forces in the city of Pokrovsk. They have been trying to capture the transport and logistics hub for over a year. Moscow’s Defence Ministry says its soldiers had cleared 35 buildings of Ukrainian soldiers. Russian forces are also squeezing surrounded Ukrainian forces near the town of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region. This could give Moscow a platform to drive towards the two biggest remaining Ukrainian-controlled cities in the Donetsk region, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.
# Athletics: The World Indoor Tour will boast a record calendar of 77 meetings across 24 countries next year. The tour is made up of four levels: Gold, which has the highest prize money, Silver, Bronze and Challenger. There will be eight Gold-level meetings, kicking off in Boston in the USA on 24 January and ending in Poland on 22 February. The athlete with the most points will be offered a wild card entry for the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Poland.
