# The Progressive Business Forum says it will be launching legal action against those behind the defamatory allegations against itself, and chairperson, ANC Treasurer General, doctor Gwen Ramokgopa. This comes after messages circulated on social media alleging that Ramokgopa and businessman Groovin Nchabeleng had received illicit payments from alleged underworld figure Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala. The Forum allegedly also received illegal donations through events linked to the ANC treasurer general’s office. Ramokgopa told Newzroom Afrika that a forensic report has cleared them of wrongdoing:
# The DA has written to the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture chairperson, Joe McGluwa to request that both the minister Gayton McKenzie and the Mzansi Golden Economy adjudication panel be summoned to appear before Parliament. # An eleven-year-old boy and his father are expected to appear in Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo today in connection with the murder of a farmworker. Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy was allegedly shooting at guinea fowl on a farm in Thabazimbi over the weekend, when he accidentally discharged the firearm, fatally wounding the 30-year-old farmworker. Police say the boy’s father was arrested and charged with negligent handling of a firearm. Limpopo Police Commissioner, Thembi Hadebe, has warned parents about their responsibility to keep guns away from children.
# The Chinese government has warned that it will retaliate if US president Donald Trump makes good on his threat to impose new 100-percent tariffs on Chinese imports. Last week, Trump hit back at Beijing’s move to tighten its rules for rare earths exports, accusing it of becoming very hostile and trying to hold the world captive. China’s Ministry of Commerce says if the US persists in acting unilaterally, Beijing will resolutely take corresponding measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.
# Golf: Germany’s Alex Cejka shot a one-under-par 71 to win the PGA Tour Champions’ SAS Championship by three strokes in North Carolina. This is the 54-year-old’s first title since the 2023 Senior Open Championship. South Africa’s Ernie Els finished second with a four-under 68, his 12th top ten and third runner-up finish of the year. New Zealand’s Steven Alker finished third. Cejka says he is proud of how he remained focused in tough conditions:
