# Parliament’s ad hoc committee will hear testimony from a new witness today, National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola. The committee is looking into allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, who completed his testimony on Wednesday. During his testimony at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, Masemola accused suspended Police minister Senzo Mchunu of violating section 207 of the Constitution by ordering the disbandment of the KwaZulu-Natal political killings task team. He also accused former Police minister Bheki Cele of protecting suspects and manipulating dockets.
# Deputy minister of Electricity and Energy Samantha Graham-Maré says the renewable energy industry presents a defining opportunity for African countries to leverage their vast resources to re-industrialise and create dignified employment opportunities. The continent holds 60-percent of the world’s best solar resources, vast wind potential, and many of the critical minerals that underpin the global clean energy economy. Graham-Maré says co-development of technology, de-risking investment capital and public-private partnerships are also key to Africa’s renewable energy re-industrialisation:
# Johannesburg mayor Dada Morero says they have successfully secured a substantial grant of approximately 548-million-rand from Invest International Public Programmes, a prominent Dutch development finance institution. The funding is a step forward in the metro’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental leadership. The mayor’s acting spokesperson, Khathutshelo Mulaudzi, says Johannesburg’s objectives are clear and ambitious: to minimise waste, drastically reduce reliance on landfills, and harness renewable energy:
# Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu described the agreement of the first phase of the Gaza 20-point peace plan as a diplomatic success and a national and moral victory for Israel. The deal includes an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and a hostage-prisoner exchange. Netanyahu says that through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of US president Donald Trump, they have reached this critical turning point. Hamas says the people of Gaza have demonstrated unmatched courage, honour, and heroism.
# Cricket: Beth Mooney’s century helped Australia bounce back from a top-order collapse to beat Pakistan by 107 runs at the Women’s World Cup in Colombo. The defending champions were reduced to 76 for seven. However, Mooney scored a blistering 109 and shared the highest-ever ninth-wicket partnership in Women’s ODI history with Alana King, 106 from 96 balls, as Australia recovered to 221 for nine in 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan were bowled out for 114. Mooney says batting was mentally tough:
