# The DA escalates a complaint to the Public Protector over minister De Lille’s alleged abuse of power

# The DA has lodged a complaint with the Public Protector against Tourism minister Patricia de Lille over her decision to dissolve the South African Tourism Board. The party says the board had acted lawfully to suspend CEO Nombulelo Guliwe over financial irregularities, but De Lille intervened. The DA’s Haseena Ismail says former board members told Parliament she ignored warnings, interfered in auditor-general investigations, and delayed action against Guliwe:
# Trade union Solidarity says its defamation case against minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, will proceed unopposed. This follows after neither Ntshavheni nor president Cyril Ramaphosa filed a response to contest the claim. The case relates to Ntshavheni’s statements in March alleging that Solidarity and AfriForum spread misinformation during their visits to the US. Solidarity CEO Dirk Hermann maintains there is no evidence to support these claims.
# The People’s Movement for Change says it will put forward community-rooted candidates ahead of the local government elections. The party contested its first municipal election in Theewaterskloof in the Western Cape in February 2024, finishing sixth out of six parties, with two-percent of the vote. The party’s spokesperson, Grant Harmse, says their 2026 local government elections campaign is both practical and measured:
# Soccer: England’s captain, Harry Kane, is considering extending his stay at Bayern Munich after claiming his interest in returning to the Premier League has cooled. Kane has made a fast start to the season at Bayern, scoring 18 goals in 10 games to fuel the German champions’ Bundesliga title defence. The 32-year-old, who has netted 103 goals in 106 appearances for Bayern, is under contract in Munich until 2027.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-21-cents and the euro at 20-rand-1-cent. One British pound costs 23-rand-10-cents and Bitcoin trades at 123-thousand-287-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-973-dollars-32-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 64-dollars-89-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Founder and chief designer of the popular luxury Xhosa knitwear brand MaXhosa Africa, Laduma Ngxokolo, presented his Spring/Summer 2026 collection at Paris Fashion Week over the weekend. The collection of 30 bold looks is titled Izipho Zabadala, which means Gifts For the Ancestors. Former US first lady Michelle Obama and singer Beyoncé are among the well-known personalities who have worn MaXhosa garments. Ngxokolo says being included in the Paris Fashion Week lineup for the fourth consecutive year is special:
