Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# The DA leader says South Africans face a clear choice: growth or decay
# The FF Plus says the Tembisa Hospital report proves that corruption robs people of healthcare
# And Netanyahu supports Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza
# DA leader John Steenhuisen says urgent reform is the only way to create jobs and unlock opportunity. He visited the ANC-run Emfuleni and the DA-run Midvaal in Gauteng on Monday, as part of a countrywide tour to unpack the party’s plan to turbocharge the economy. The plan rests on six urgent reforms, which include functional local municipalities and cutting wasteful expenditure. Steenhuisen says the upcoming local government elections are South Africa’s chance to choose growth, opportunity, and prosperity with the DA, or continued unemployment and decay under the ANC.
# The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research says South Africa experienced a sharp reduction in loadshedding during the first half of this year. The amount of electricity shed fell by 82-percent compared with the same period in 2024. This improvement is attributed to lower electricity demand, new generation capacity, and a marginal rise in Eskom’s energy availability factor. The council’s Sipho Mdhluli says the reliability of Eskom’s power plants also improved modestly:
# The Freedom Front Plus says the Special Investigating Unit’s report on corruption at Tembisa Hospital in Ekurhuleni proves how deeply entrenched corruption is within health departments. The investigation uncovered three coordinated syndicates, responsible for the looting of over two-billion-rand meant for healthcare. The FF Plus’ Philip van Staden says the party has consistently warned that mismanagement, corruption, and maladministration are like a cancer eating away at public healthcare in the country:
# Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu says US president Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza achieves their war aims, and will dramatically advance peace in the Middle East. The two leaders met at the White House on Monday. The plan includes Israeli forces will withdraw partially to prepare for a hostage release, the return of all hostages, dead or alive and the disarmament of Hamas. Netanyahu warned that Israel “will finish the job” if Hamas rejects the plan:
# Soccer: South Africa’s Amajita suffered a 2-1 defeat to France in their Fifa Under-20 World Cup Group E opener in Chile. Anthony Bermont put France ahead in the 25th minute. South Africa equalised courtesy of a penalty converted by Jody Ah Shene in the 33rd minute. France’s star forward Lucas Michal’s 80th-minute goal proved to be the winner. Amajita will be back in action on Friday against New Caledonia and will face the US on Sunday.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-25-cents and the euro at 20-rand-22-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-17-cents and Bitcoin trades at 114-thousand-382-dollars. Gold sells at three-thousand-863-dollars-88-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 66-dollars-60-cents a barrel.
