# Pro-Palestine marchers demand stricter sanctions against Israel
# The FF Plus demands improved security for Afrikaner heritage treasures
# And rugby: It is a resounding victory for the Boks against Argentina
# Pro-Palestine marchers are demanding urgent action from the South African government on the genocide in Palestine, with the implementation of the Apartheid Bill against Israel to ensure boycotts, divestment, and sanctions. Yesterday, thousands gathered in Cape Town, led by civil society coalitions, to urge South Africa to impose stricter sanctions against Israel. The Global Anti Apartheid Movement leader, reverend Frank Chikane, says it is a crucial step for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions:
# Cosatu expressed deep concern about the revelations emerging from the Madlanga Commission into allegations of political interference within the criminal justice system. The federation is calling on all those implicated to come out clearly on these very serious allegations, particularly those relating to the political killings. Cosatu’s Edwin Mkhize says that for years, Cosatu has consistently called for drastic measures against political killings, crime, and corruption, which overwhelmingly affect poor and working-class communities:
# The Freedom Front Plus is calling on the government to come up with plans to protect the Afrikaner heritage treasures in the country. FF Plus, Jaco Mulder says the Kruger grouping of statues on the historic Church Square in Pretoria’s CBD has been vandalised once again. He says parts of the four Burgher sentry statues, that symbolically guard the Kruger statue, have been sawn off, specifically their rifles and feet. He adds that it is suspected that the vandals are scrap metal thieves targeting the sculptures due to the value of bronze:
# The DA in the Western Cape says the Social Work Integrated Management System App is proving to be a game-changer in the way social services are managed in the province. The DA’s Wendy Kaizer-Philander says currently, one-thousand-141 Department of Social Development social workers are actively using the SWIMS App to record and manage their interventions. She says the SWIMS App is a strong example of how innovation in government can lead to real, meaningful change:
# The United States said it would revoke Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s visa after he took to New York’s streets on Friday in a pro-Palestinian demonstration and urged U.S. soldiers to disobey President Donald Trump’s orders. Petro, addressing a crowd of pro-Palestinian protesters outside the U.N. headquarters in Manhattan, called for a global armed force with the priority of liberating Palestinians. The Trump administration has been cracking down on pro-Palestinian voices while countries including France, Britain, Australia, and Canada have recognized a Palestinian state.
# Rugby: South Africa thrashed Argentina 67-30 in their Rugby Championship encounter at the Kingspark stadium in Durban last night to move top of the table with one round to play. Fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu broke the record for the most points scored by a South African in a Test with 37, scoring three tries, nailing eight conversions, and adding two penalties. He beat Percy Montgomery’s record for most points in a single Test with his hat-trick of tries among nine scored by the home side. He was also named Man of the Match.
