# KwaZulu-Natal Director of Public Prosecutions, Elaine Harrison has rejected claims that political killings ended in 1994. Testifying at the Madlanga commission in Pretoria, Harrison said violence linked to politics continues to this day, often intensifying in the run-up to elections. Harrison highlighted recurring patterns of murder, attempted murder, intimidation and assaults linked to political rivalries, warning that KwaZulu-Natal remains vulnerable to such crimes:
# Patriotic Alliance president and Sport, Arts and Culture minister Gayton McKenzie has threatened the ANC that his party will form a coalition with the DA in next year’s local government elections. This follows his demand for the reinstatement of PA deputy president Kenny Kunene as Johannesburg transport MMC by Tuesday. McKenzie also announced his resignation as minister, warning the PA will exit all ANC coalitions nationwide, accusing it of sidelining them:
# Deputy minister of Electricity and Energy, Samantha Graham-Maré, has launched the inaugural Municipal Women’s Forum in Energy Efficiency. The primary objectives of the forum include equipping women with leadership tools and technical knowledge, and raising public and institutional awareness of women’s role in advancing energy efficiency. Graham-Maré says the forum represents a crucial step toward a more inclusive approach to energy management in municipalities:
# A new open letter signed by more than a thousand actors has denounced “anti-Semitic” calls to boycott some Israeli film institutions over the war in Gaza, underlining growing tensions in the entertainment world. The letter accused the more than 8-thousand people who have backed a boycott, including stars Emma Stone and Joaquin Phoenix, of “amplifying anti-Semitic propaganda.” The biggest names behind the counter letter include Liev Schreiber and Sharon Osbourne, as well as the CEOs of Universal Music and FOX Entertainment Global.
# Tennis: Eighth seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia moved into the last 16 of the China Open today with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Cameron Norrie of England. However, the day also witnessed a significant upset as Italian Flavio Cobolli dispatched sixth seed Andrey Rublev 7-6, 6-3. Top seed Jannik Sinner of Italy also progressed comfortably, winning 6-2, 6-2 against Croatian Marin Cilic.
