# Today is World Environmental Health Day, observed under the theme, Clean Air, Healthy People. This day encourages collaboration between public and private institutions to implement sustainable practices, reduce pollution, and adapt to climate change to protect public health. Globally, approximately 99-percent of people breathe air that exceeds World Health Organisation safety guidelines, exposing them to dangerous pollutant levels. International Federation of Environmental Health says sustainable practices and policies can mitigate the effects of air pollution and improve people’s health and well-being.
# Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dion George, says through the Expanded Public Works Programme, his department is committed to generating more than 77-thousand full-time jobs. Sixty-percent of the opportunities will go to women, 55-percent to youth, and two-percent to persons with disabilities. The department’s spokesperson, Thobile Zulu-Molobi, says projects such as Youth Environmental Services, Youth Jobs in Waste, and Environmental Monitors are providing training and career pathways in biodiversity conservation, aquaculture, waste management, and renewable energy:
# And finally: The City of Cape Town has launched the first commercial fully electric boats at the V&A Waterfront, unveiled by City Sightseeing Cape Town. The eco-friendly ride seats 32 passengers. This is ahead of World Tourism Day tomorrow. Mayoral committee member for Economic Growth, James Vos, says by using products such as electric boats, the local industry players are ensuring a smaller carbon footprint, helping the Mother City maintain its standout natural features:
